Poplar Street Bridge – St. Clair County, IL and St. Louis, MO

Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT)

EDSI, as a subconsultant, performed surveying and roadway design for the eastbound widening of the Poplar Street Bridge from 4 lanes to 5 lanes. EDSI collected LiDAR data for the ground level and the sub-structure. MoDOT completed mobile LiDAR that was incorporated with the EDSI models. The point cloud data was used to create the basefiles used in the design of the project. Surveys were also completed on the Terminal Railroad Yard and eastern approach structure. MoDOT, IDOT, and Terminal Railroad are stakeholders in the project and close coordination with all was required. EDSI was also responsible for right-of-way plans, utility coordination, and sub-structure inspection.

City + Arch + River Survey Services -
    St. Louis, MO

City + Arch + River (CAR)

EDSI, as prime consultant, served as the Master Surveyor on the CAR project. EDSI was responsible for preparing the overall project control, used for all associated and future projects. Surveys were completed of the entire West Gateway, which include Kiener Plaza, the Old Courthouse, and Luther Ely Smith Square. A full topographic survey was completed for the Jefferson National Memorial site. That survey was a composite of LiDAR and conventional surveys. The survey also incorporated tree attribute data for all trees on the grounds. EDSI was also responsible for the coordination and compilation of all existing base files for the CAR project, which included the Washington Street Ramps and the Park over the Highway projects with MoDOT. EDSI supported the project team as a subconsultant in developing the planning/design/engineering process as well as in the development of the project goals and objectives. EDSI participated in public outreach and engagement as needed to support the successful outcomes of the project.

Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge – St. Louis, MO and St. Clair County, IL

    Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT)

The hallmark of this project is the creation of a new gateway between Illinois and Missouri that provides better connections to and through St. Louis. The project includes a landmark bridge structure and the realignment and reconstruction of Interstate 70 and numerous local roads on both sides of the Mississippi River. As a subconsultant, EDSI’s design included traffic signals at four intersections along Cass Avenue as part of the Missouri North I-70 Interchange portion of the project. EDSI also completed the surveys for the east approach and the western interchange associated with the bridge.

This project was one of the ASCE 2016 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement (OCEA) merit finalists.
